Taral Patel’s experience in local, state, and federal government has made our local community more effective, engaging, and efficient for everyone that calls Fort Bend home. 

He helped lead our county successfully through numerous flooding incidents, the COVID-19 pandemic, Winter Storm Uri and electric grid failure, droughts, and other major emergencies to emerge stronger and more united than ever before. Taral’s efforts have brought thousands of good paying jobs to Fort Bend, made historic investments to our Public Safety and Emergency Management programs, and fought traffic congestion.

  • Served as the Chief of Staff for Fort Bend County

  • New Public Transportation Facility

    Opened new public transportation facility, increased resources and fleet, and provided more mobility options for residents.

  • Anti Hate Resolution

    Passed Anti Hate Resolution with the Anti-Defamation League to support Asian American, Jewish, African American, and other minority communities.

  • Diversity over Division Initiative

    Launched the Diversity over Division initiative to bring people together through art, music, and more throughout Fort Bend County. Implemented art competitions, public murals, spoken word presentations, diversity trainings, and much more.

  • Building Ties & Fighting Hatred

    Hosted faith, community, and elected leaders to discuss diversity in law enforcement.


    Stood with the Sikh Community to encourage diverse officers in law enforcement.


    Brought statewide Asian-American officials & local law enforcement leaders together to build ties and fight hatred.

    Updated Fort Bend’s voting machines to be touch screen & added a paper trail.

    Spearheaded the Fort Bend Commissioners Court to advocate the Texas Legislature for Property Tax and Appraisal Relief.

Veteran Services

  • Connecting Veterans to Resources

    Brought software to connect veterans to any resources needed from 47 other Houston area nonprofits increasing data to help us better understand & serve the needs of the 27,000+ veterans in Fort Bend county. This saves taxpayers $400,000 in software development costs and about $100,000 annually for software maintenance; first such partnership with a County in the State of Texas.

Faith Engagement

  • Active Shooter Trainings & Safety Plans

    Partnered Law Enforcement Agencies and Faith Institutions for Active Shooter Trainings and Safety Plans.


  • Bringing Community Members Together

    Hosted community vigils and prayers with Interfaith Leaders following tragic shootings of Mosques, Churches, and more to bring community members together for peace and compassion.


    Regularly joined 50+ FB faith leaders to discuss the county’s efforts to fight COVID-19.


    Brought together dozens of Faith Institutions to raise donations for neighbors affected by Hurricane Laura.


    Hosted National Day of Prayer gatherings to bring together religious leaders and communities for peace, compassion, and understanding.

Community Outreach

  • "Adopt a Family" Program

    Created the “Adopt a Family” program in Fort Bend to help care for the neediest families in the county and giving them much needed items like diapers, baby wipes, toothpaste, toilet paper, and paper towels.

  • Bringing Resources to Fort Bend

    Brought numerous recreational facilities like cricket fields, parks, and community centers to all Precincts in Fort Bend County.


    Brought County Resource Fairs to every single Precinct of Fort Bend County to ensure agencies, nonprofits, healthcare providers, schools, and other resource providers came directly to residents with services for families and youth of Fort Bend.


    Organized listening tours in every precinct of Fort Bend County to hear the needs and concerns of residents.



  • Working with Community Partners

    Partnered with Behavioral Health Services, Law Enforcement Agencies, Non-Profit Organizations, and community partners to raise awareness about Domestic Violence issues.


    Ensured that mayors, faith leaders, nonprofit organizations, Healthcare partners, and community members were briefed on county priorities with any major updates.

    Partnered with the Army Corps of Engineers to review our Major Watershed studies to allow for a better regional understanding and regional solutions.

Human Trafficking Prevention

    Increased awareness of human trafficking through language in bids, solicitations, contracts, and purchase orders.

    Established coalition to bring together stakeholders and trained county staff and modified protocols to improve victim identification, and increased connection of victims to services.

  • Spreading Access to Help for Victims

    Created program to spread access to help for victims by promoting the national trafficking hotline on palm cards and throughout the public transportation networks.

Homeland Security & Emergency Management

  • Modern Emergency Operations Center

    Initiated design and construction of a modern, 21st century Emergency Operations Center.

  • Text Based Emergency Notification Sign Up

    Launched the first text based Emergency Notification Sign Up and partnered with Clear Channel Communications to promote Emergency Messaging on network of billboards throughout Fort Bend County.

  • Increasing Coordination Efficiency

    Combined Office of Fire Marshal & Emergency Management in the County to increase coordination efficiency, save the taxpayers ($250,000 a year) by eliminating duplications, and increase communication for emergency situations.

  • County Response to Hurricane Laura

    Led county response to Hurricane Laura by preparing the county for impacts from the storm.

Covid-19 Response

  • Countywide Stay at Home order & Mask Mandate

    Followed the science and took measures to ensure folks stayed at home during the height of the pandemic and utilized masks to prevent the spread in accordance with CDC guidelines.

  • Securing PPE for Frontline Workers

    Worked to secure PPE for frontline workers in Fort Bend County.


    Organized hundreds of thousands of PPE kits to be distributed in every corner of Fort Bend County.

  • Launching Assistance Programs for Residents

    Launched assistance programs to help residents struggling with rent, utilities, food, and/or medications.

  • Pursuing Aggressive COVID-19 Testing Strategy

    Pursued aggressive COVID-19 testing strategy in all precincts of Fort Bend to battle COVID-19: Top County in State of Texas for per capita testing.


    Implemented Testing Strike Teams to serve nursing homes and other facilities.


Mental Health

  • New Mental Health Attorney

    Hired a new Mental Health Attorney.

  • Increasing Individuals Screening

    Increased screening of individuals before entering the criminal justice system and reviewed our processes and protocols to maximize efficiency and spending on these programs.

  • Mental Health Community Outreach Taskforce

    Established a Mental Health Community Outreach Taskforce, a County Mental Health Committee focused on helping first responders in stressful situations, announced a Children's Mental Health Summit in January 2020, and partnered with Gallery Furniture to create a Mental Health Resource Center.
